Under our legal system, everyone has both rights and responsibilities. It is important that students know and understand them so they may enjoy freedoms under the law and avoid problems that arise from misunderstanding or breaking laws. The course will begin with an introduction to the origin of our legal system. We will study various aspects of the law that may affect the student such as crimes, consumer law, family law and housing law. Class activities will include guest speakers from the legal profession, mock trials and other activities that will give students hands on experience with legal forms and documents. Class size is limited.
