School boards are now required by the 2015 Wisconsin Act 55 (the state budget bill – section 118.57 of the state statutes) to annually publish, prior to January 31, a description of the educational options available to the children residing in the district, including public schools, private schools participating in a parental choice program, charter schools, virtual schools, full-time open enrollment, Youth Options Program, and Course Options.
The notice must also include the most recent performance category assigned to each school within the school district boundaries on the school and school district accountability report, and inform parents/guardians that the full school and school district accountability report is available on the district’s Internet site. In addition, according to section 115.385(4) of the state statutes (also found in 2015 Wisconsin Act 55), each public school is required to annually provide the list of educational options available to children residing in the district to the parent/guardian of each student enrolled in the district. This law change became effective 7/14/15.
