The objective of Spanish I is to provide students with the basic skills to communicate in the target language. Students will learn vocabulary and sentence structures through games, songs, readings, videos, web sites, texts, direct instruction and Total Physical Response. The focus of the class will be on pronunciation, basic vocabulary and grammar rules, and conjugation in the present, present progressive and simple future tenses. Students will be expected to read, write, respond to oral cues, and speak in the target language. Students will also be required to communicate and work in collaborative groups in a spirit of mutual respect. The ultimate goal of the class is to create global awareness and understanding, as well as spark an interest in further language study.
