1 Trimester
Grades 10-12
Prerequisite: Fabrics and Design I

Students will explore advanced techniques to produce hand-made projects. Projects will be based on student‘s previous experiences as well as wants and needs for further learning. Advanced students will treat this class as an independent study course, working at their own ability and skill level. All materials, patterns, notions, etc. will be at the expense of the student. This expense could be $50-$100 for the trimester depending upon chosen projects, patterns, and textiles.

1 Trimester

Prerequisite: None

Do you have a driver‘s license and a job? If so, you know the complications and added expense that both bring. This course will prepare you for successful management of your personal finances. Smart Goal Setting, identifying needs and wants, saving, reading paychecks and tax forms and managing cash, credit and bank accounts are all topics that will be covered using hands-on practical real-life activities and games. For this class, you will need to come prepared with a folder, loose leaf paper and something to write with.

Do you plan to become a parent someday? Do you like children? Are you considering a career that involves working with children? If so, this the class for you. By understanding children, our experiences and relationships with them will be stronger. Through class discussion we explore the following: the physical, social, emotional and intellectual development of children; family, discipline, the value of play, TV and children, day care, and other issues related to children.

1 Trimester

Prerequisite: Foods 1

In this hands-on course students will continue to expand upon the concepts of Foods 1. Increased emphasis is placed on food presentation and styling (garnishing), creative food preparation, menu planning and costing, the effects of making informed management decisions, cultural and regional influences on food trends, and careers related to foods and nutrition.

Prerequisite: None

Why do we eat? When do we eat? With whom do we eat? All of these factors influence our food choices. In this course, students will discuss the following topics: What influences our food choices; technology and food; nutrition; safety and sanitation; as well as planning for and preparing meals and snacks. Classroom experiences will involve class discussions and assignments of the various food topics, exploring food related issues, individual and group projects, and the preparation and evaluation of various labs. This course involves LMC research.
