Accounting

2 Trimesters
Grades 11-12
Prerequisite: Basic Math Skills

The basic principles of accounting are stressed. This course gives students a foundation for more advanced courses in accounting especially if they are planning to pursue the business field through technical college or university course work. It also provides students with the skills needed later in their own personal lives for systematic recording and planning of income and expenditures. Two business simulations are completed giving the student practical application of the principles learned in the course. Basic math and analytical skills are emphasized, along with communication skills.

Careers

1 Trimester
Grades 10-12
Prerequisite: None

This class is designed to help students explore many different types of career options. This course will cover job applications, interviews, employability skills, personal assessments, and analysis of the Wisconsin Student Assessment System (WSAS) 10th grade testing. Students will develop a career plan. Guest speakers from various career fields will present career options. Representatives from various colleges, technical schools, and businesses will also visit the class to share career information. Each student will participate in a one-day job shadow experience with a local employer.

Employability Skills

1 Trimester (1st Trimester)
Grades 12

Do you have a job? Would you like to get a job? Would you like to earn work release so that you can be released during the school day to go to work? If you answered yes to any of these questions, this is the class for you! Employability skills is the course to get you started to secure a job or continue working at your current job during the school day. This class will prepare you with all the skills you need to be a successful, productive employee - - one that your employer will want to keep and promote! This course is required to continue with the Work-Based learning (Youth Apprenticeship) course 2nd and 3rd trimesters.

Information Processing

1 Trimester
Grades 9-12
Prerequisite: Teacher recommendation, Post-test progress from Business Applications 8

This course will develop skills in using the computer to produce a variety of documents. Students will develop a better understanding of computer and information processing concepts. Microsoft Word word processing is covered extensively. This course also develops skills in Microsoft Excel with possible opportunities to become MOS certified in both programs at the end of the course.

Introduction to Business

1 Trimester
Grades 10-12

This course will give students a broad understanding of the business world. It will focus on units in Human Resources, Marketing, Finance, Management and will guide the learner through processes of running a business. A culminating activity at the end of the semester will tie all components together into a functioning business (i.e. opening a business, organizing a charitable/community event, etc.)

Microsoft Office Essentials: Web 2.0

1 Trimester
Grades 9-12
Prerequisite: Microsoft Word Essentials or Information Processing

The purpose of this course is for students to learn to use an integrated computer program, one that combines functions to create one end result. Emphasis will be placed on combining word processing, database, and spreadsheet documents with a presentation program. Students will also learn to create and arrange graphics such as bar charts and pie graphs, as well as learning to import these graphics into wordprocessed documents. Independent work habits will be encouraged as well as business-related atmosphere. Popular Web 2.0 tools will be introduced as well as Google docs.

Publications

Prerequisite: English II
Elective Credit
WITC Articulation**

Students in this course will compose and edit the school yearbook, district newsletter, a Cameron High School newspaper, and a variety of other commercial products (i.e. newsletters, posters, flyers, brochures, and letterhead). Emphasis will be placed on journalistic style, designing a spread, organizing a publication, and learning a desktop publishing software package. Other areas to be covered related to publications will be layout, photography, and marketing. Proper written and oral communication skills will be stressed. This course is designed for students interested in journalism and the organization of a business. Class size will be limited to hardware availability.

Work-Based Learning

2 Trimesters: 2nd and 3rd Trimesters
Grades 12
Prerequisite: Employability Skills
Cost: Work Permit (if necessary) and transportation to employment

This course allows students to work in the community while earning high school credit during the school day. A limited number of students work for local cooperating businesses. The program is school supervised and the employment serves as a means of acquiring desirable work habits and attitudes. Students will be required to have a job to stay in the course and provide their own transportation. Students enrolled in this course are eligible to earn the Wisconsin DPI Employability Skills Certificate, which certifies employment competencies in several areas.
