Graphic Design

1 Trimester
Grades 10-12
Prerequisite: None

The class will focus on studying and creating examples of quality graphic design involving typography (text); promotional design; and product and packaging aesthetics (beauty). Students will use computer applications, Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign to create monograms, logos, advertisements, magazine concepts, posters, food packaging prototypes, perfume/cologne concepts, etc. Students must be comfortable using computers; must be willing to problem solve, illustrate text and think of visual imagery.

Photography

1 Trimester
Grades 10-12
Prerequisite: None

This class is offered to sophomores, juniors and seniors only. The course focuses on digital photography and digital editing using Photoshop. An overview of basic terminology, camera functions and capabilities will be discussed. Student will be cognizant of principles of art and elements of design to frame their images. Students may use their own digital cameras or check out a school owned camera to complete the assignments.

Advanced Art

1 Trimester
Grades 10-12
Prerequisite: Art I and Art II

This class is designed for the self directed and self motivated student who wants to continue in Art on a more advanced level. Each student is expected to complete instructor assignments and to design their course of study for the semester. Deadlines for these projects are discussed and set by the student and the instructor. Students may work in any medium available in the Art Room, and/or may purchase their own supplies specific to a particular project. The only restriction on supplies would be with regard to safety factors. If course work is successfully completed, students may repeat this class each semester for continued credit.

Art II

1 Trimester
Grades 9-12
Prerequisite: Art I

This is a follow up to Art I with a continued emphasis on drawing, but branching out into other mediums. Acrylic and watercolor painting will be studied. 3-D projects might include clay, copper tooling or paper

Art I

1 Trimester
Grades 9-12
Prerequisite: None

An introductory level art course with a strong emphasis on drawing skills. Students will be required to turn in a sketchbook assignment or a weekly journal. This course will introduce students to a variety of mediums, such as; colored pencil, charcoal, graphite, pen and ink, scratchboard, pastels, etc.

Folk Art

1 Trimester
Grades 9-12
Prerequisite: None

This class is designed to focus on Art of the common man throughout history and across many cultures. Students will have a variety of art experiences and will receive the historical and cultural background behind each art form. Projects will vary from semester to semester, but could include selections from the following: Batik, Dream Catchers, Pinatas, Ukrainian Easter Eggs, Macramé Bracelets, Sumi Calligraphy, Mexican Yarn Paintings, Coiled Baskets, Reed Basket Making, Mask Making, Weaving, Primitive Painting, Egyptian Tie Dye, etc.
